Shares retreat in HCM City, rally in Ha Noi

The HCM Stock Exchange's benchmark VN-Index failed to maintain yesterday's rally to close down 0.46 per cent to 417.73 points in today's session.

Nearly half of listed codes posted losses.

Market value, however, climbed 24 per cent over yesterday's level to VND443.94 billion (US$21.4 million) on a volume of 28.8 million shares.

Blue chips tumbled, with seven out of the 10 largest shares led by capitalisation slumping between 0.6-1.6 per cent. Only software giant FPT (FPT) and Phu My Fertiliser (DPM) added 0.2 and 0.3 per cent respectively.

Becamex Infrastructure Co (IJC) claimed the highest trading volume of more than 2.1 million shares changing hands. It lost 4.1 per cent to conclude at VND11,600 per share.

Meanwhile, on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index closed up 0.67 per cent to 70.93 points despite scant trading.

The value of trades inched up only 2 per cent over yesterday's session to VND252.5 billion ($12.2 billion) as 25.1 million shares changed hands.

Sai Gon – Ha Noi Bank (SHB) was the most active code on the northern bourse with nearly 2.1 million shares exchanged, hitting its ceiling price of VND7,900.
